Create and Manage Ziti Services

Overview

This guide goes over the specifics of creating and managing Ziti services in the NetFoundry Console.

If you're unfamiliar with Ziti, read more about it here.

A Service must be created after your Ziti Network, Endpoint, and Edge Router have already been created. To find information on creating an Endpoint or Edge Router in a Ziti Network, please view these documents:

Create a Ziti Service

Creating a Ziti Service is similar to a regular service, just for a Ziti Network. Go to Network Settings → Manage AppWANs → Manage Services to get the process started. Click the blue plus-sign in the upper right corner to create a new service.

On the 'Create a New Service' screen, you'll see options for name, endpoints, attributes, configuration, and termination.  There are two types of Services which require different user input, Edge Router Terminated Services and Endpoint Hosted Services.

Edge Router Terminated Service

A unique name is needed to create a service. Next, either select from your list of already created service attributes, or create a new one. If you have service attributes already created, you'll need to click on the field to populate the list of attributes to choose from. When creating a new one, hit 'return' or 'enter' to populate the attribute.

Next you'll fill in your router termination information. To input router termination, you'll need to toggle the 'on' switch to enable this feature. Currently, router based termination is needed to create a service so, make sure you have that enabled.

For Client configuration, Enter the host name or IP Address (and port) on which the Clients of this service will access this service.

For Router Termination, Enter the Edge router behind which the service will be hosted.  The service (which could be a public or private location) IP or host name, along with protocol and port should also be provided.

Client(s) Hosted Service

One or more Client may be utilized to host a service, accessible by one or more clients.

A unique name is needed to create a service. Next, either select from your list of already created service attributes, or create a new one. If you have service attributes already created, you'll need to click on the field to populate the list of attributes to choose from. When creating a new one, hit 'return' or 'enter' to populate the attribute.

Similarly, add or create the list of clients hosting the service using attributes.  Also select a set of edge routers that will be utilized to provide access to those services, using attributes.

For Client configuration, Enter the host name or IP Address (and port) on which the Clients of this service will access this service.

Manage Your Ziti Service

To manage your existing Ziti Services, navigate to Manage AppWANs and switch over to Manage Services. You can click on a service row to edit it or use the ellipsis menu at the end of each row to take actions on the individual service. Use the select bubbles in the first column of the table to select multiple services for bulk delete.

When editing an existing service, the screen will look the same as the 'Create a New Service' screen, except that you'll click 'Update' to finish editing your service, instead of create.
