Introduction to Client Endpoints

Introduction

The NetFoundry Client is light-weight agent that is installed on your computer in order to access one or more AppWANs.

To manage your clients on the console, navigate to Network Settings → Manage Endpoints → Manage Clients from the navigation menu.

Click on a client row to view details about that client. Click the blue plus-sign in the upper right corner to create a new client. Use the ellipsis menu at the end of each row to take actions on an individual client, like deleting and sharing.

In the first column is a radio button for selecting multiple clients, so that you can delete them in bulk. Clients without a radio button are managed through an IAM subscription and cannot be manually deleted. See Synchronize an Azure Active Directory group with NetFoundry for more information on syncing clients with an IAM system.

Create a New Client and Share it With Others

From the Manage Clients page, click the blue plus-sign icon to create a new client:

  1. Client Name: Give this client a unique name to identify it
  2. Client Type: Choose if you are creating a client that is designed to connect to a Ziti-enabled network or not.
  3. Location: Specify the "home region" where client will spend most of its time

Click the "Create" button to continue.

On the confirmation screen, take note of the Registration Key. When you install the client on your computer, you will need this information. This key is a security measure to prevent unauthorized people from joining your network. Keep it safe. If it is compromised then delete the client from your network immediately.

If you are not the one installing the client, you can email these details to someone else. Click on the share icon in the upper-right hand corner of the page.

Installing Client Software on a Computer

Prerequisites for Installation

To install NetFoundry software in any endpoint, including our clients certain ports must be open outbound.  Those are

Needed for one time registration of endpoint into the NetFoundry Network

For regular connectivity to the NetFoundry Network
  • TCP 80, 443
  • UDP 49002
  • TCP/UDP 5520-5550

If you are running Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware software we recommend you turn these off during installation.

Clients are available for both MacOS and Windows operating systems, and can be downloaded from the NetFoundry downloads page. See one of these guides for installing the client software on your computer:

When you run the installer, it will prompt you for the key it should use to register with your NetFoundry Network. The registration key is generated from the NetFoundry Console when you create a client.

If a customer requires the creation of clients for a large number of users this can be accomplished via our API you can also open a support ticket if you need a .msi for your Group Policy installations or other needs.

During Client Operation

For Windows users your anti-virus or anti-malware applications may identify the NetFoundry client as a problem.  There are two applications that were installed, these are VtcMonitor and VdnTray.

To enable the NetFoundry client in these case you will need to white list the NetFoundry applications running. 

Viewing Details About a Client

The client dashboard will show you an events timeline, historical usage information, and memberships to Endpoint Groups and AppWANs.
